Cheap Flights from the UK to Karachi
Which airlines fly from the UK to Karachi, why every route connects once, how to choose a connection, baggage and the best time to go.
There is no non-stop to Karachi
Unlike Islamabad and Lahore, Karachi has no non-stop flights from the UK. Every route connects once, usually in the Gulf or Istanbul. That is not a disadvantage when it comes to price, as one-stop fares to Karachi are often the best value of any Pakistani city.
Jinnah International Airport is Pakistan's busiest, and it is served by every major Gulf carrier, so you have plenty of choice.
Airlines that fly to Karachi
Qatar Airways connects through Doha, Emirates through Dubai, Turkish Airlines through Istanbul, Etihad through Abu Dhabi, Gulf Air through Bahrain and Riyadh Air through Riyadh. Air Arabia also flies from London Gatwick via Sharjah, usually with a long layover.
Gulf Air is frequently the best value to Karachi, and it allows 40kg on most economy fares. Qatar Airways and Turkish Airlines are also strong on both price and baggage. Emirates is often a little higher but has a very comfortable connection.
Choosing your connection
The best connection is one you will not miss. Look for two to three hours between flights. A shorter connection is risky, and a longer layover wears you out, although Turkish Airlines can include a stopover hotel on longer ones.
Total journey time is typically twelve to sixteen hours from the UK, so compare the real arrival time in Karachi as well as the price.
Baggage and extras
Gulf Air, Qatar Airways and Turkish Airlines allow 40kg on most fares, and Emirates 30kg to 35kg. If you are carrying a lot, ask us to price extra baggage at booking. Our baggage guide lists every airline.
When to go
Karachi is hot and humid for much of the year, and the most comfortable weather is from November to February. Those months also overlap with the winter wedding season and Christmas, so book early. Fares are usually lowest from late January to March and from September to November.
If your family lives inland, for example in Hyderabad or Sukkur, Karachi is the usual gateway.
Onward travel from Karachi
Karachi is the usual gateway for Sindh and for Quetta and Balochistan. Domestic flights, trains and long-distance buses connect Karachi to the rest of Pakistan, and some airlines let you add a domestic flight to your ticket. Ask us if you want a single booking through to another city, because it can simplify baggage and protect your connection.
If you are staying in Karachi, remember that traffic can be heavy. Arrange your pick-up in advance and allow extra time for the journey from the airport.
What to pack for Karachi's weather
Karachi is hot and humid for much of the year, and the coast brings a sea breeze that makes the evenings more comfortable. The monsoon season from July to September brings heavy rain, which can disrupt roads and flights. Light cotton clothing works for most of the year, and winter evenings from December to February can be cooler, so bring a light layer.
