Documents you need to fly to Pakistan from the UK

Passports, NICOP and POC cards, visas for British passport holders, and what airlines check at the gate.

Pakistani passport holders

  • A Pakistani passport valid for the whole trip is all you need. Airlines check the expiry date, so renew early if it is within six months of expiry.

British passport holders of Pakistani origin

  • A NICOP (National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis) or POC (Pakistan Origin Card) lets you enter Pakistan without a visa. Carry the physical card; airlines ask for it at check-in.
  • Without a NICOP or POC you need a visa. Pakistan's online visa system issues most UK applications within a few working days, and British citizens can also use visa on arrival under the Business and Tourist schemes when eligible.

Children

  • Every child needs their own passport. Children travelling with one parent may be asked for a consent letter from the other parent, especially on the return to the UK.

At the airport

  • Keep your e-ticket, passport and NICOP or visa together. Pakistani airports also ask for the passenger to complete the Pak ID digital arrival form on some routes; we tell you if it applies to your flight.

Questions about this guide

Do British citizens need a visa for Pakistan?

Yes, unless they hold a valid NICOP or POC card. Visas are applied for online and most UK applicants receive them within a few working days.

Can I fly with a passport that expires soon?

Pakistan requires the passport to be valid for your stay, but airlines and transit countries often apply a six-month rule. We recommend at least six months' validity to avoid problems.

What if my NICOP has expired?

An expired NICOP is usually still accepted as proof of origin for entry, but airlines may refuse boarding. Renew it before travelling or apply for a visa.
