PIA vs Qatar Airways vs Emirates to Pakistan
How PIA, Qatar Airways and Emirates compare on flights from the UK to Pakistan: stops, baggage, cities served and who each suits best.
The three main choices
Most UK families choosing a flight to Pakistan are weighing these three: PIA for the non-stop flight, Qatar Airways for the widest choice of Pakistani cities, and Emirates for a premium one-stop journey. The best one depends on where you fly from, where you land and what matters most to you.
Stops and journey time
PIA flies non-stop from Manchester and London to Islamabad and Lahore, taking around eight hours. Qatar Airways connects in Doha and Emirates in Dubai, adding roughly three to six hours to the journey. If you have young children, elderly parents or a lot of luggage, the non-stop saves effort. If price matters more, a one-stop flight is often cheaper.
Cities you can reach
Qatar Airways flies to the most Pakistani cities from the UK: Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, Sialkot, Multan and Faisalabad. Emirates serves Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar and Sialkot. PIA flies to Islamabad and Lahore only from the UK. If your family is in Faisalabad or Multan, Qatar Airways saves a long road trip.
Baggage
PIA and Qatar Airways usually allow 40kg in economy. Emirates is typically 30kg to 35kg, depending on the fare, with some special fares lower. For a heavy trip, the extra 5kg to 10kg with PIA or Qatar Airways matters, and it is worth comparing the full price including any bags you would need to add.
On board
PIA offers Pakistani meals and Urdu-speaking crew, which many passengers value, especially older travellers. Emirates is known for large aircraft, a big entertainment library and a smooth connection through Dubai. Qatar Airways offers a similar premium experience through Doha. Seat comfort and service depend on the aircraft and the date, so treat these as general differences.
Comparing the real price
A headline fare is not the whole story. Compare the total price including the baggage you need, the connection time and the fare rules. A fare that is £40 cheaper but allows 10kg less baggage can cost more once you add extra kilos. Check what the fare allows if you need to change your date, and what you get back if you cancel.
Airlines also publish several fare types on the same flight, such as a basic fare and a flexible one. Make sure you are comparing the same type. When we send a quote, we show the baggage and the main fare rules next to each price.
Who each airline suits
Families with young children and older travellers often prefer PIA's non-stop flight and Pakistani meals. Students and solo travellers often choose a cheaper one-stop fare with Qatar Airways or Emirates and are comfortable with a connection. Large families heading to Faisalabad, Multan or Peshawar are usually best served by Qatar Airways, which flies to more cities.
None of the three is best for everyone. The right choice is the one that fits your route, bags and budget on your dates.
Which should you choose?
Choose PIA if you want a non-stop flight, Pakistani food and 40kg baggage from Manchester or London to Islamabad or Lahore. Choose Qatar Airways if you are flying from Birmingham or Scotland, or to a city PIA does not serve. Choose Emirates if you want a comfortable one-stop trip and the fare is competitive.
Prices change daily and the cheapest of the three is not always the same. Request a quote with your dates and we will compare them, along with Turkish Airlines, Etihad, Gulf Air and others.
