Cheap Flights from Birmingham to Pakistan
Birmingham to Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi and more: the airlines that fly one-stop from Birmingham, baggage, and when to consider Manchester instead.
How Birmingham flights work
There are no non-stop flights from Birmingham to Pakistan. Every route connects once, usually in Doha, Dubai, Istanbul, Abu Dhabi or Bahrain. The advantage is that Birmingham has a good choice of airlines and the fares are often lower than non-stop services from other cities.
Airlines from Birmingham
From Birmingham Airport we quote Qatar Airways through Doha, Emirates through Dubai, Turkish Airlines through Istanbul, Etihad through Abu Dhabi and Gulf Air through Bahrain. Between them they reach Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, Sialkot, Multan and Faisalabad.
Turkish Airlines and Gulf Air are often the cheapest. Qatar Airways and Emirates usually cost a little more but have short, comfortable connections. Etihad runs regular seat sales to Lahore and Islamabad.
Journey time
A one-stop trip from Birmingham usually takes eleven to fourteen hours in total. The connection matters as much as the price: two to three hours is a comfortable layover, while a very long wait adds hours to your day.
Should you travel from Manchester instead?
PIA flies non-stop from Manchester and London to Islamabad and Lahore. If you want a non-stop flight, a train or drive to Manchester is under two hours in normal conditions for many Birmingham families, and the saving or the shorter flight can be worth it. Ask us to price both. For a family of four or more, compare the cost of getting to the airport too.
If you prefer to leave from home and do not mind one stop, Birmingham is simpler, and you avoid long drives with luggage.
Baggage
Qatar Airways, Turkish Airlines and Gulf Air generally allow 40kg in economy. Etihad allows 30kg to 40kg depending on the fare, and Emirates 30kg to 35kg. See the baggage guide and ask for extra baggage at booking.
When to book
Fares are lowest from late January to March and from September to November. Book three to four months ahead for Eid, the summer and December. The best time to book guide has more detail.
Getting to Birmingham Airport
Birmingham Airport is next to Birmingham International railway station, with a short link to the terminal, so trains are the simplest option from the city and from much of the Midlands. If you drive, pre-book parking or drop-off to save money. Arrive at least three hours before departure, and earlier at Eid and in school holidays.
Connecting at the Gulf and Istanbul hubs
Doha, Dubai, Istanbul, Abu Dhabi and Bahrain are large airports, and the connection is easier than it looks. Follow the signs for transfers and keep your boarding pass and passport to hand. Most travellers who stay airside do not need to enter the country, but transit rules depend on your passport, so check them before you book.
If you have a long wait, ask us about lounge access or a stopover hotel. Turkish Airlines sometimes includes one on long connections.
