Wedding Season Flights from the UK to Pakistan

How to book flights to Pakistan for a wedding: when to book, group tips, extra baggage for outfits and gifts, and what to keep in hand luggage.

Why wedding season is hard to book

Pakistani weddings cluster in two periods: the winter months from November to February, when the weather is cooler, and the UK summer holidays. Both seasons overlap with times when many UK families already want to fly, so seats sell out early and fares rise as the date gets closer.

Wedding dates are fixed, which means you cannot wait for a cheaper day. That makes booking early the best way to protect your budget.

When to book

As soon as the date is confirmed, start checking fares. For a winter wedding, three to four months ahead is a good target. For a summer wedding, book by spring. If you are not sure of the final dates, ask your consultant about a deposit to hold seats while you wait.

Fares can be higher on the Friday and weekend before the wedding. Arriving a few days earlier on a Tuesday or Wednesday is often cheaper, and it gives you time to recover from the journey. Our cheapest month guide shows how fares move across the year.

Booking for a large group

Airlines sell each fare class in limited blocks, so the price can change while you are booking for six or eight people. If you book each traveller separately, the later ones may cost more. Tell us the full group size and ask for the whole party to be priced and held together.

Make sure each name matches the passport exactly. Correcting a name later can cost money, and some airlines do not allow it at all.

Outfits, gifts and extra baggage

Wedding trips mean heavier luggage. Most airlines allow 30kg to 40kg in economy, but the allowance depends on the airline and the fare. Add extra baggage at booking, because it is much cheaper than paying at the airport. See the baggage allowance guide for each airline.

Pack heavy items in checked bags and put jewellery, medicines, chargers and anything irreplaceable in your hand luggage. Keep receipts for new electronics and gold, as undeclared items can attract duty or delays at Pakistani customs.

Documents and return flights

Check every passport and NICOP or visa well before you fly. Children need their own passports, and a consent letter can help if one parent travels alone. See our documents guide.

Ask what the change rules are on the fare you choose. Wedding plans can move, and a fare that allows a date change may be worth a small extra cost.

Planning the trip around the events

A Pakistani wedding is usually several days of events, from the mehndi to the wedding day and the walima. Think about which events you cannot miss and when you want to arrive. Landing four or five days before the main day leaves time for fittings, family visits and any last-minute changes, and it avoids the premium on the days immediately before the wedding.

Fix your return date with the same care. The days after a wedding are also busy, as guests travelling from the UK head home together. A return a few days after the walima is often cheaper than the first available day.

Travel insurance and paperwork

A wedding trip can involve a lot of money and a lot of planning, so travel insurance is worth having. Check that it covers cancellation, medical care in Pakistan and your baggage, and that the policy covers everyone in your party, including children. If you carry gold, gifts or cash, check the limits on what you can carry with official sources before you travel, and keep receipts.

Questions about this guide

When is the Pakistani wedding season?

Mainly November to February, and again over the UK summer holidays. Both periods are busy for flights.

How far ahead should I book flights for a wedding?

Three to four months ahead for winter and summer weddings, as soon as the date is fixed.

Can you hold seats for a large family?

On many fares we can hold seats with a deposit and take the balance later. The hold time depends on the airline.

Can I take wedding clothes and gifts in my luggage?

Yes, within your baggage allowance. Add extra baggage in advance, keep valuables in hand luggage and keep receipts for new items.

Should I book one-way flights and decide my return later?

One-way fares are often more expensive than a return, so a return with a flexible date is usually better. Ask us to compare.

Is travel insurance worth having for a wedding trip?

Yes. Cancellation, medical and baggage cover are all useful, so check what the policy includes for your whole party.
